Tile floors are a very popular flooring option because they are very durable, easy to clean, and water-resistant. However, they still require proper care and maintenance to ensure they last as long as possible. At a very basic level, tile floors need to be regularly vacuumed and swept. This cleans up any debris that would otherwise cause surface scratching, and keeps the floors looking nice. Additionally, tile floors need to be cleaned with a damp mop once a week. For high-traffic areas, the flooring may need more frequent mopping to prevent soil from wearing the tiles down.
Beyond cleaning, damage to the tiles can be prevented in a number of ways. When trying a scouring powder or sealant, test it on a small area to prevent a bad reaction on the entire floor. Further, sealing the grout is extremely helpful in terms of preventing staining and moisture damage. If there is tile located in high-traffic areas, such as entryways, area rugs or mats can decrease the amount of damage caused by excessive use. Meanwhile, picking furniture up when moving it and using feet protectors on furniture that sits on the tile prevents scratching.
