A student-led organization dedicated to helping middle school students combat social isolation, Beyond Differences was established in 2010. Through its programs, it raises awareness of the causes of and solutions to aspects of social isolation, including self-esteem issues, declining social skills, and academic frustration.
The Beyond Differences Teen Board, made up of 32 students from the Bay Area, leads an assembly program for thousands of 5th through 9th grade students every year. By creating a safe environment for students to share their stories, the Middle School Assembly Program works to inspire and create a more inclusive social experience. Empowering 7th and 8th grade students to act as leaders within their communities, the Leadership Academy Training Program includes a fall overnight retreat and regular after-school meetings for hands-on learning.
